Sunbound Hat Guide

Everything you need to know before purchasing a Sunbound Hat.

What is the Sunbound Hat?

The Sunbound hat is a handcrafted canvas wizard or witch hat redesigned for the modern world. Crafted in durable 100% cotton canvas and customized to fit your preferences, it blends function with something a little less ordinary.

How are the hats made?

Each Sunbound hat is cut, sewn, and finished by hand in small batches. These are not mass-produced pieces—every hat is individually crafted with attention to detail, structure, and durability.

What materials are used?

Sunbound hats are made from 100% cotton canvas, chosen for its structure and durability. Additional materials may include grommets, paracord straps, and or bow ties. Some hats are made with  duck cloth canvas, which means it is slightly thicker and stiffer than the plain cotton canvas.

How do I choose my size?

We recommend measuring your head circumference and selecting a size 1–2 inches larger for a comfortable fit.

Available sizes typically include:

  • Small - 23" Hat Circumference
  • Medium - 24" Hat Circumference
  • Large - 25" Hat Circumference
  • Extra Large - 27" Hat Circumference

If you’re unsure, sizing guidance is always better than guessing—reach out if needed.

How to Measure Your Head

What you’ll need

    • A soft measuring tape
(or a string + ruler if you don’t have one)

Step 1: Find your starting point

Place the measuring tape just above your eyebrows, where you naturally want the hat to sit.

Step 2: Wrap around your head

Bring the tape around the widest part of your head—just above your ears and around the back of your head.

Step 3: Keep it snug, not tight

The tape should feel secure but comfortable. Not squeezing, not loose.

Step 4: Take your measurement

Record the measurement in inches.

Choosing Your Size

For Sunbound hats, we recommend selecting a size 1–2 inches larger than your head measurement for a comfortable fit. If you prefer a more snug fit choose a hat 1" larger than your head measurement, for a looser fit choose a hat that is at lease 2" larger than your head measurement. The looser the fit, the lower it will sit on your face.

Example:
If your head measures 22", choose a 23"–24" hat.

             No Measuring Tape?

Use a piece of string, wrap it the same way, then measure the string against a ruler.

What strap options are available?

Straps are optional and can be added based on your preference. Options may include:

  • Grommets only, no strap
  • Adjustable paracord strap with toggle in lots of color options
  • Fabric ties or specialty variations (when available)

Each restock may include different options, so check the listing details at the time of purchase.

When will my hat ship?

All Sunbound hats are made to order. Current processing time is typically 2–4 weeks, though this may vary depending on order volume.

You’ll receive tracking information once your order ships.

Do you offer rush orders?

Not at this time.

Will sold-out hats be restocked?

Sold-out hats will be restocked once current orders are completed and shipped. Most colors will return, unless noted as limited edition in the product description.

Can I make changes after placing my order?

Because production begins quickly, changes are not guaranteed. If you need to request an adjustment, contact us as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Once your hat has been cut, we will not be able to change the shape or style.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Due to the made-to-order nature of each hat, we do not accept returns or exchanges. Please review sizing and options carefully before purchasing. Please reach out to bri@brimandbobbin.com if you have an issue with your order.

Is the hat suitable for sun use?

Yes—the Sunbound hat is designed for outdoor wear, offering shade and structure for activities like gardening, hiking, pool days, and everyday use.

What’s Coming Next

The Sunbound hat is continuing to evolve.

I’m currently developing new variations, including water-resistant options and lightweight UPF fabric versions designed for hotter days and extended time in the sun. These materials behave very differently from the current canvas, so we are taking time to test structure, refine patterns, and make sure they meet the same standards for fit, durability, and overall feel.

These versions are still in the sampling and testing phase, and I don’t have a release timeline just yet—but they are actively in the works.
